Picture Taking Day 2008
Customers and Employees pause for a picture-taking session on July 4,
2008. Background is one of the new line Peterbilts nose to nose with
"Old Blackie", the J-Mar mascot truck. Old Blackie was the 500th
Peterbilt bought by Julian Martin. It was a 1995 model with a
special Cummins engine, dyno tested at over 600 horsepower. It has a
six speed main transmission with a four speed auxiliary and seven
inch stacks with no mufflers. Old Blackie was put into regular
service in June, 1994 and rolled up more than 750,000 miles in the
next 30 months. Julian then used it as his personal truck until his
death in 1998. Old Blackie has since served as one of the more
impressive utility trucks in the industry, with the odometer
approaching the million mile mark.
